It is decided! I am going to put creative writing on the back burner for my 20 time project, and deep fry some Moroccan sweets instead! I am not too disheartened about ditching the creative writing project in exchange for potentially a few extra cavities, because Moroccan desserts include a lot of honey and a lot of mess; so I am sure I will have a lot of interesting baking experiments to write creatively about.
My goal is to master the Makrout cookie that I grew up eating, in the next 5 weeks. I want to push myself, so I will also be experimenting with a few other favorite Moroccan cookie recipes as well. I think this is a good 20 time experiment for me, because it gives me an opportunity to dig a little deeper into my cultural heritage.
Baking a few Moroccan sweets allows for “play,” “making,” and “knowledge” as baking is something I have always enjoyed playing around with. Further, I will be creating/making sweets I have never made before, and I will increase my knowledge of my own culture and the background of the sweets I experiment with. I plan to search for a lot of different tutorials and videos on how to make these sweets as I am a highly visual learner! Written down recipes are helpful, but the visual learner in me is excited for some you-tube fun! I am excited that technology will be a huge help in reconnecting me to my cultural background, since unfortunately my family stored recipes in their brains instead of on paper...Can’t wait to get started and to spread the sugar coma to others! Salut!
